How to play - General
What is SM/CS Hybrid?.
These builds are for players with limited game-time activity who want to make decent (but slow) progress while maintaining their busy work/school/life schedule.
This build style introduces active skills at delayed SP levels to balance inactive progression with end-of-run pushing power.
SM/SC Hybrid can, with a bit of luck, be competitive in tournaments if you are using Perks & frequently checking-in to level up heroes and prestige.
Hybrid builds will reach your MS and can push to new/higher stages, but your initial runs may fall short of your actual MS until your Artifacts are optimized for inactive play.
Hybrid builds require active play during check-ins to progress. Inactive progression will taper off and cease earlier in a run than with Farm builds. This is due to reduced passive damage, instead gaining pushing/active damage sources.
A fully on-line / active build will always push farther and reach your prestige stage faster than any SM Build.
Tournament & Equipment Info:
During the first run of a Tournament, Portar is disabled, so your initial tournament run will take a very long time.
Silent March is disabled until your first in-tournament prestige.
SM stage progression in tournaments is limited to the highest stage you have reached with active play during the tournament.
Owning the Mechanized Sword equipment set (Mythic) will slightly speed up your inactive progression speed & damage.
Owning the Sly Wolf equipment set (Legendary) will greatly increase your inactive progression speed.
Owning the Dark Predator equipment set (Mythic) will slightly increase your inactive damage, allowing for longer SM sessions between check-ins.
Owning the Shadow Disciple equipment set (Legendary) will slightly increase your inactive progression speed.
Important artifacts for the builds below include Influential Elixer, Avian Feather, Earrings of Portara, Fagin's Grip, and Essence of Kitsune. Gold source Artifacts will vary by build and are noted below for each build set.
Fairy Gold will provide a modest amount of additional pushing power at the end of a run when compared to pHoM, but your push will take longer.
You can increase the average run speed by purchasing ranks of Fairy Charm, increasing the SP cost of the build. I recommend 6 ranks or more if using the Fairy build competitively.
Key Artifacts for Fairy Gold include Chest of Contentment, Great Fay Medallion, and The Bronzed Compass.
Pet Heart of Midas provides a speed advantage over Fairy, but with a minor reduction to pushing power.
Gold gain will be predictable and consistent without randomness, which makes the build a bit easier to 'autopilot' during pushing, requiring less attention.
Key Artifacts for PHoM include Heroic Shield, Neko Sculpture, and The Bronzed Compass.
Silent March for Late-Game / High-SP Players:
As of 3.1, SM is still viable for those with limited play time and a lot of patience. SM run times increase much more noticeably than active play at higher stages.
This is because Ambush can't keep up with active builds speed advantage with Snap & Portar as Titan Count increases.
Most players notice their runs slowing down and becoming uncomfortable somewhere around stage 35-40k. It varies depending on your Artifacts and Intimidating Presence rank.
I generally suggest switching to an active build after or around stage 40k due to Titan Count and SM's progression speed.

Bold number values indicate an increase in level of the skill per new total sp column bracket. Prerequisite skills not shown below should be left at level 1.
When increasing SP levels towards a new build tier, invest in damage sources before Gold sources.
Progression: Open game, purchase active abilities (DS/HoM/FS/WC/SC), and activate them. Wait for your gold source to become available. When a pHoM bubble or set of Fairies spawns, collect your gold and level up Sword Master & heroes. Increase active skill levels if you are not making progress. Resume inactive play until your next check-in. Progression slows down the closer you get to 99% of MS. Prestige when you are no longer progressing and have levelled all active skills to your affordable max, unless you intend to push.
